Real estate salesmen and brokers are licensed professionals who buyers and sellers trust to act with competence and high ethics in all transactions. This is especially true when it comes to handling client money.

We recently wrote about the Summary of Enforcement Actions published monthly by the California Department of Real Estate which details license revocations and other disciplinary action against real estate brokers and salesmen who are accused of violating the Business and Professions Code.

One woman who previously worked as a broker had her license revoked in 2008 after a judge found trust funds handled by her firm were short by $187,000. According to a recent news report, the Santa Cruz, California woman is also alleged to have committed “39 counts of embezzlement, financial elder abuse and writing thousands of dollars in bad checks.”

She now stands accused of stealing more than $500,000 from clients. Her trial recently proceeded with a preliminary hearing after she turned herself in to authorities in February.
